Danila Caputo, also known as   @travellingdany is an Italian photographer. Her photos regularly receive over 1000 likes on Instagram. She has a particular interest in creative writing and American history, so it is no wonder the Americas feature heavily in her collection. Whether you’re inspiring to take better photos for social media, or want to improve your travel photography in general, then @travellingdany is an account to keep your eye on.

Where do you find your inspiration from when taking travel photos?

Nature inspires me a lot more than urban life or architecture, I can definitely say that. To be honest, I don’t think there’s a specific something that triggers my muse: I’m always keeping my eyes open because I’m curious about the world. That way when something tickles my fancy I immediately start shooting, be it still life, a beautiful landscape, maybe if I’m lucky also wild animals. I want to crystallize a moment in time. If I look back at a picture taken even a year before and it still manages to bring me back to the day I shot it, then I did a good job.

What has been your favourite destination for photography?

I am in love with the United States of America and in particular with everything country. Red rocks, horses, national parks, especially those where I can do some trekking, have always been my thing. As far as I can remember, I’ve always been in love with horses and ranches: being put on a saddle at 5 clearly influenced me! So should I choose I’d say places like the Antelope Canyon, Mariposa Groove of Giant Sequoias, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon are amongst my favourites.

What piece of advice can you offer people to take better travel photos?

I highly recommend to bring a tripod with you, or when you have to travel light, use a stable surface where you can put your camera to shoot. Especially with long exposure photography it’s very important to stay still as if your hands tremble, even if just a little bit, it will make your photo blurry. Buying a remote could be the perfect solution. I sometimes use it with a tripod so the camera won’t move when I shoot. Since using a tripod, I’ve noticed a huge improvement in focus! Oh, and always carry more than one memory card with you! I tend to shoot a lot so I have at least 3-4  memory cards with me all the time, that way I can also take hi-res photos or RAW images, without being afraid of not being able to store everything!
Feeling inspired? We’d love to hear how these tips have helped you.
